Taftflex 6221 is a one-component polyurethane adhesive sealant that bonds composites with a permanently elastic joint between materials that expand at different rates. AFT 1080GF acrylic foam tape and Ninja 108 cyanoacrylate also list composite as a substrate.
How do you prepare a composite surface?
For MightyLoc 9025, abrade the bonding surfaces and clean with isopropyl alcohol (IPA) or acetone, keeping them free of dust, dirt and grease, and avoid oil-based cleaners. For Taftflex 6221, surfaces should be clean, dry and free of oil and grease, and activators or primers may be needed depending on the substrate. Pre-test the prep on the specific composite.
How do you choose rigid versus flexible?
Use MightyLoc 9025 where you need a rigid, load-bearing structural bond on fibreglass or composite panels. Use Taftflex 6221 where the joint must stay flexible and absorb movement between dissimilar materials. AFT 1080GF tape suits clean panel mounting where a foam tape accommodates expansion.
